Amuri Historical Society Inc.

The Amuri Historical Society Incorporated was established in 1974. Its purpose being to collect and preserve former,  Amuri County – Waiau, Rotherham, Culverden and Hanmer Springs early records, in any format.

The Society is staffed by volunteers who collectively hold many years of 'local knowledge'.

These volunteers generously give their time and are happy to help you with local and family history research.

The Cob Cottage Museum was built during the 1860-1870’ period and is constructed out of clay, straw and tussock. In an ‘Early Settlers Cottage’ setting you will find displayed, domestic memorabilia and other items of historical interest from a long forgotten era.

former Waiau Presbyterian Church

Former Waiau Presbyterian Church

The former Waiau Presbyterian Church, located at the rear of the Cob Cottage, holds a permanent display of the Society’s Photographic Collection. From time to time the Society hosts a static display. These Exhibitions showcase the Society’s Collection.

Both the Cob Cottage and the Former Waiau Presbyterian Church, have Historic Places Trust listing Category 11.

The Society is working at digitising and indexing the entire collection. This will not only secure the collection for the future, but will also allow ease of access to all.
