Subdivision and lifestyle development

In recent years the Council has developed a Growth Management Strategy for the township to encourage appropriate subdivision and lifestyle development within Hanmer Springs. Over the last year the Council has approved three private plan change requests to rezone rural land to residential in areas that were identified for this in the Growth Management Strategy.  This land is now included in the Hanmer Springs urban boundary.  More information on these rezonings can be found in our District Plan

The NM Associates Ltd report Review of Apartment Living in Hanmer Springs recommends that there are areas in Hanmer Springs that are appropriate for multiple unit dwellings (apartments) subject to specific design controls. The Council has adopted the findings of the NMA report and will be seeking community input on a proposed plan change to address this issue soon.
