The Hurunui District Council has one community board:
The Hanmer Springs Community Board
Currently, the Hanmer Springs Community Board consists of five community representatives, elected triennially by electors in the community, and the Hanmer Springs Ward Councillor.
The board elects its own chairman at the first meeting after the triennial election.
Community Boards are constituted under section 49 of the Local Government Act to:
- Represent and act as an advocate for the interests of their community.
- Consider and report on matters or issues of interest or referred by the
council. - Maintain an overview of services provided by the council in the community and to make an annual submission on expenditure.
- Communicate with their local community organisations and special interest groups.
